Dry Needling
Western medical acupuncture, often called dry needling, is based upon anatomy, neurophysiology and pathology.
Acupuncture... "the insertion of a solid needle into any part of the human body for disease prevention, therapy or maintenance of health." Acupuncture Regulatory Group 2003
At BeActive our acupuncture expert physiotherapist inserts long, fine, sterile needles are inserted through the skin to treat a variety of conditions. This form of treatment has been shown to be safe and effective when carried out correctly. Dry needling can complement and enhance your other physiotherapy treatments such as mobilisations, muscle release and exercise rehabilitation.
Benefits
Acute (recent) or chronic conditions can respond to needling. A wide range of conditions can be treated but as an overview needling is used to:
- Relieve pain
- Improve movement
- Reduce muscle spasm
- Promote relaxation
- Lower stress levels
- Improve sleep patterns
Needle stimulation promotes the brain’s secretion of endorphins, your body’s natural pain killers, and enhances your natural healing response.
A course of treatment is required to get the most positive result.
All treatments are carried out by a physiotherapist specialising in dry needling.
