An 8-week physiotherapy program for women post pregnancy to help correct abdominal separations and strengthen pelvic floor muslces.
Abdominal Separations:
Two out of three women experience a separation of the rectus abdominis muscle, the long muscle located in the middle of the abdomen, during their pregnancy. This is called a Diastasis Rectus Abdominous Muscle (D.R.A.M).
The combination of abdominal weakness, hormonal changes, weight gain, and abdominal wall stretch exerted by your growing baby, can cause muscle separation along the centreline of the abdomen. This separation predisposes to back-ache or injury. The abdominal muscles act as a corset to support your back and abdominal organs. By training these muscles correctly you will improve this support and help regain your figure.
Treatment and Exercise:
Exercises focus on improving core stability, strengthening pelvic floor muscles and improving abdominal muscle tone. A pre-program physiotherapy assessment and Real-Time Ultrasound Imaging included in the 8-week program.
Our Program Includes:
- An 8-week program of group exercise classes focusing on your deep abdominal muscles. Each week in the course progresses from the week before.
- Combination of mat-work, bands, sticks and ball to facilitate optimal results and functional exercise.
- Motivation, supervision and guidance with stability exercises.
- Education on how to monitor your progress and ensure a healthy abdominal wall.
- Advice on lifting, posture, diet and handy tips on back and abdominal muscle care.
